Rolly Royce have officially unveiled the Ghost just ahead of its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor show. It all started with the 2ooEX concept which was shown at the Geneva Motor Show 2009 followed by official announcement of confirmed production at the Shanghai Motor show later in the year. Looking virtually the same as the 200EX concept, styling blends classic Rolls Royce appeal with the modern design. The front in true Rolls Royce fashion is dominated by a huge sloping grille which gives in imposing presence and charisma flanked by two slim Xenon headlights. Moving further reveals massive rear view mirrors and the trademark suicide doors (coach doors  in Rolls Royce speak!) with built in umbrella’s. The rear has LED tail lights and optional chrome tipped exhausts. For maximum presence you can even paint the hood, grille and the windscreen surround in a contrasting Silver satin finish!

That the interiors are luxurious goes without saying. They manage to look elegant yet pack in enough technology to keep the geek in you happy. Entering the lavishly appointed cabin, you are greeted by acres of high quality leather, “violin key” switches, frosted instrument dials, plenty of wood and some delightful chrome detailing as a sort of garnish over a great dish. Other comfort and convenience features include four zone automatic air conditioning with condensation prevention and solar compensation  and individual lounge seating with message, heating  and cooling functions. The Ghost also carries over additional Phantom quirks, such as the power reserver dial which driver gets in lieu of a traditional tachometer.

To further enhance the luxury Rolls Royce offers lambswool floor mats, a panorama sunroof, veneered picnic tables and even a cool box with integrated champagne glasses! There is also an option of “theatre configuration”  which includes two 9.2 inch LCD screen mounted at the back of the front seats and glovebox-mounted six-disc multimedia changer.

Tech tid bits include comfort entry system, parking assist with cameras on the rear, front, top and side, night vision system with pedestrian recognition, heads up display, a lane departure warning system, high beam assistance and cruise control with stop and go technology. The Ghost rides on an advanced suspension which features a four corner air suspension with multilink aluminium front and rear axles. Ride comfort is further enhanced by technologies such as Active Roll Stabilization and Variable Damping Control.cThe suspension is so sensitive and intelligent that it can automatically detect and adjust itself when a rear passenger moves from one seat to another!

Power comes, courtesy a brand new 6.6 Litre turbocharged V12 engine which is even more powerful than the big brother Phantom. The Rollers arent about absolute power figures but “waftability” still the engine produces a massive 563 bhp and a mamoth 780 nm of torque. The engine is mated to a highly advanced 8-Speed ZF automatic transmission which power the 5445 pounds Ghost from 0-100 kph in just 4.9 seconds! The top speed is limited to 155 mph. The fuel efficiency number are pretty impressive too with a figure of 13.6 Litre / 100 kms in combined cycle.

The Ghost will make its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show and will be priced from £165,000 (UK), €213,000 (in Europe), $245,000 (US) and $250,000 USD virtually everywhere else.
